Upside-Down White House [Wisconsin Dells, WI, USA]

There are several upside-down White Houses in the U.S. The one located in Wisconsin Dells, a city in south-central WI, is the largest of them, and also the only one with its insides being upside-down as well.

I am not sure if much has changed since summer 2013, but back then for only $5 per person you could get inside the building and enjoy a tour. It was definitely worth it! Our tour guide was such a great actress; she managed to scare me a few times during those 15 or so minutes (even though that's not too hard to do :D).

So if you're ever in Wisconsin Dells, I'd recommend that you take the time to tour the upside-down White House or at least stop by and take a quick picture! :)

[Bucha, Ukraine]

One thing you guys should know about me: I like weird, creepy places. I haven't come across too many of those, but there have been a few, and I'm going to share some of them with you on this blog.

Bucha is a city in Ukraine, located 17 miles away from Kiev, Ukraine's capital. It's a nice, quiet town with beautiful nature. Throughout the city there are quite a few sculptures scattered here and there. Most of them aren't anything special, but there are two that creep me out a little.

This first one is a statue of a boy. I think it's his pose that seems so unsettling to me.

And the other one is a split heart, except its halves are... angels. With this one, I think it's the condition the sculpture's in that makes it look so creepy.

Hedgehog Monument [Kiev, Ukraine]

This monument is dedicated to the main character of a popular Soviet animated film called "The Hedgehog in the Fog".

The monument is made of wood and screws that simulate the spikes.

Interesting fact: Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, is a big fan of "The Hedgehog in the Fog". The film was even referenced in Family Guy (season 8, episode 3).

Welcome back!

Hi guys!

So if you're familiar with my blog, you know that I used to post quite a lot on here 2 years ago. For the most part this was a place for me to share my thoughts and feelings when I was studying abroad; therefore, as soon as I returned home, I completely abandoned this blog. But now I decided to come back! However, the content I'm going to be putting out is going to be very, very different. So, here's what you need to know if you decide to stick around (or if you're new to my blog):
  • from now on all my posts are going to be in English;
  • English is my second language, though;
  • this won't be a personal blog/journal-type-thing anymore. Instead, I'm going to post pictures of unusual places that I come across (parks, monuments, sculptures, buildings, fountains, etc.) and share some information and interesting facts about them;
  • I changed the name of my blog from Written in the Stars (cheesy, I know!) to Unique Places. Not too original, but oh well!
  • I do not own a professional camera so there won't be too many high-quality pictures here. But if you don't mind the kind of pictures an iPhone 4S is capable of taking, you're more than welcome!
I'm really excited to be blogging again, and the topic I picked this time is something I'm quite passionate about, so I hope you enjoy my future posts!
